UTP Full Form in Law

The UTP Full Form in law is Under Trial Prisoners. A person who has been charged with a crime and is presently being held in judicial custody pending trial or the resolution of legal processes is known as an Under Trial Prisoner. The person is deemed innocent until proven guilty because they have not yet been found guilty or exonerated.

Important aspect of UTP in law:

UTP’s culpability has not been proven, and they have not been found guilty of any crimes. According to the tenet of innocent until proven guilty, they are therefore assumed innocent.
Because UTPs are either unable to provide bail or have not been granted it, they are detained in jail. Until the court finds them guilty or not, or releases them on bond, they are held in judicial custody. Legal and human rights issues may arise from UTPs being detained for protracted periods of time without a verdict due to delayed trials.

Legal provisions guaranteed for UTP:

The right to life and personal liberty, including the right to a fair and prompt trial, are guaranteed by Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. The 1973 Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which includes regulations for bail and trial procedures, regulates the legal process for dealing with UTPs.
